The barbershop plays an important role in the black community, a sacred social space to discuss life, politics, sports, and community affairs. Located in historic downtown Lynchburg, we enjoyed working with local black entrepreneur Ralph “Chopper” Wilson to transform this amazing property into a barber shop, a ballroom, a restaurant, and residential lofts above. It was imperative that the essence of the black community was embraced through thoughtful and intentional design that honors black culture.
