Pop's Chicken House at the Anne Spencer Museum - Lynchburg, VA

The Pop’s Chicken House will become a new interpretive center for story-telling. Anne Spencer the poet, civil rights activist, teacher, wife, mother, gardener was the first African-American to have her poetry included in the Norton Anthology of American Poetry. Her husband Edward built Anne a writer’s cottage named Edankraal. The new Pop’s Chicken House will be located adjacent to Endankraal, features similar details and materials, and highlights the supportive nature of Anne and Edwards wonderful bond.

Working with Anne Spencer’s grand daughter Shaun Hester Spencer to not only preserve this story, but to celebrate black excellence.
