High Street Baptist Church - Danville, Virginia
We really enjoyed being part of the next chapter of this historic church; our ancestors would be proud of where we are today. In 1865, emancipated African Americans withdrew from First Baptist Church, where they had worshiped from the balcony, and founded a congregation later known as High Street Baptist Church. The first sanctuary was erected in 1873 and burned down twice. The Romanesque Revival church was built in 1901 and played a vital role in the 1960's Civil Rights movement by hosted Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Moore Architecture was the Architect to design the expansion addition.
